The Jealous Sound just released a posthumous EP titled Got Friends and after listening to it, I couldn’t help but get a little nostalgic. That feeling of nostalgia led me right to the creation of this here column.

The Jealous Sound were a part of the late 90s “emo boom. That, of course was WAY before Fall Out Boy and Panic At The Disco (and all the other current “emo” bands). In fact, most of the bands that were labeled “emo” back then despised the label, rather than today’s bands that were it like a badge of honor.
The Jealous sound formed out of the ashes of another great band, Knapsack. Both were fronted by lead singer and guitarist Blair Shehan. The Jealous Sound, like most of the “emo” bands back then, was heavy on guitar riffs, quiet on vocals and introspective with the lyrics.
The band had, up until last month, released only one EP (The Jealous Sound EP) and one full album (Kill Them with Kindness) before calling it quits. Well, I’m assuming they called it quits. The real problem here is that there isn’t a whole lot of information about what went down. All we know is that the band was going to record a new album and then didn’t. Five years later, their label, The Militia Group, releases an EP with a couple songs left on the band’s only full release and a couple remixes.
That’s about it. That’s about all we know. It’s really a shame because the Jealous Sound was a really kick-ass band and they were great live.
Here’s hoping that at some point the get their shit together and put out some more music. Until then, check out Kill Them with Kindness… it’s awesome.
