So… you want to be a Hipster, eh?
One of the first things you’ll need to do, after a serious shopping spree at Urban Outfitters, is familiarize yourself with the music of the Hipster culture. Hipsters can be snarky little bastards and if you don’t know what you are talking about, they’ll see right through you.
So here’s a starter list of bands to check out before attempting to go Hipster. Keep in mind, this is by no means a complete list, just a start. And feel free to add your own bands in the comments section.
Bands you’ll need to like in order to be a Hipster (in no particular order):
Animal Collective
Jenny Lewis
Junior Boys
Billy Joel
Mates of State
Belle and Sebastian
Death Cab for Cutie (but only the first couple albums)
The Mountain Goats
An obscure British band… like the Foals
Sufjan Stevens
Nickelback
Justice
St Vincent
David Bowie
Comment
Grizzly Bear
Anthony and the Johnsons
Bon Iver
Von Bondies
Cat Power
and for the record I like hipster music. but I see what you are saying.
