I’ve wanted to catch They Might Be Giants live for… oh, I don’t know, 20 years now. For all sorts of reasons I’ve always missed them. That and they don’t play the left coast very often (or at least as often as they play the East coast). But last night I saw them live. Finally. And Jonathan Coulton opened for them. So…
This week’s bout features They Might Be Giants versus their opening act, Jonathan Coulton. You might call this bout lazy, I call this bout “long time coming.”
So go, watch and vote.
Last week’s winner, Grateful Dead, has been sent to the winner’s circle.

We were sitting in a bar this weekend and the subject of the Grateful Dead came up. I proclaimed, as I am wont to do, that Grateful Dead are a terrible band and easily one of the most overrated bands of all time. The others I was with thought I was wrong. It was soon after that I realized I was wrong – The Doors are THE most overrated bands of all time. Again, my friends let me know they think I am wrong. I don’t think I am but whatever. Since we had that discussion this past weekend I thought what better of a place to settle who is actually more overrated than have you all vote! That’s what this website is all about, helping me prove points.
So go, watch and vote.
Last week’s winner, Florence and the Machine, has been sent to the winner’s circle.

I was talking to a friend of mine a day or so ago and we were talking about the next “wave” to hit the music industry. The last wave was a wave of boy/girl combos. It seemed like every “band” that come up was a dude and a chick. We could list some examples but I’m sure you’ve rattled off well over 30 in the back of your mind as you’ve been reading this. In the discussion we theorized that the next wave might just be strong female vocalists. Already we’ve seen a couple start to get huge and when a couple start to get huge you are bound to see a shit ton more. So that’s what this week’s bout is gonna be – the next wave.
First up we have the well established and popular Florence and the Machine. Florence and the Machine represents the success that can be found and one of the fore bearers of the wave. Next up we have Lana Del Rey who is hoping to capitalize on the success of Florence and the Machine. There are a lot of similarities to be found and only time will tell how this whole thing shakes out and if my friend and I are right. But in the meantime, you can pick which one you like better.
So go, watch and vote.
Last week’s winner, Blink-182, has been sent to the winner’s circle.
Well, here we are – it’s the very end of 2011. We’ve had a ton of bouts this year and we’ve taken the top two vote getters and pitted them against each other. What an awesome idea! We are the only people who have ever had this idea! Trend setters. That’s us!
So this week we have the top two vote getters pitted against each other – Noah and the Whale versus The New Pornographers!
So go, vote and let’s see who the grand (2011) champion is! Yay!
Last week’s winner, South Park, has been sent to the winner’s circle.

It’s no secret that I am not the biggest fan of Christmas (mostly because of the Christ part) and it’s even less of a secret that I am not the biggest Christmas music fan. I generally think Christmas music is lame but since it is Christmas time and I am in the minority (in this country) I will do a Christmas themed bout – only I’m gonna do it my way. So this week we have two funny Christmas songs. This week we have SNL’s famous “Dick in a Box” song versus South Park’s “Merry Fucking Christmas.” Modern classics.
So go, watch and vote.
Last week’s winner, Robyn, has been sent to the winner’s circle.
