"Heroin" - This guy

It seems like every couple years or so we get “new” Elliott Smith songs – but I guess that’s true for most of our cherished, deceased artists. But yeah, The Washington Post has apparently turned up (with some help from WMUC-FM) a new Elliott Smith song. I’m a huge Elliott Smith fan so I immediatly checked it out.

The sing, maybe called “Misery Let Me Down,” sounds like a lot of the “unfinished stuff” we’ve heard from Elliott since his death. and by that I simply mean unfinished – the song sounds unfinished.

You can check it out here.

I miss him.

God damn it I wish he was still here.

Elliott Smith is dead and that sucks. He’s been dead a while now and it still sucks. There is a long list of people that I wish were dead instead of Elliott Smith but what’s done is done.

Since we’ve been shakin’ our booty all morning I think it’s time to take a step back and remember that life isn’t always about booty shakin’. I mean, there should be a lot of booty shakin’ in your life – just not the whole time. Sometimes there needs to be a little bit of quiet and introspection going on. And to help us with that we have a free track from Elliott Smith.

Click here to download “Thirteen” from Elliott Smith.

Elliott’s label just released a “best of” album that you should buy. Why? Because there will probably never be anyone quite like Elliott again.

Today is Elliott Smith’s birthday. Had he not stabbed himself a couple of times, he would have turned 41. That sucks. Not the turning 41 bit, but the fact that he isn’t here anymore because he stabbed himself a couple of times. I really liked him better when he was alive. He was, in my opinion, one of the best song writers we’ve ever seen and heard.

I saw him live several years ago in Denver. It was one of the more… different shows I’ve seen. He obviously wasn’t in a good place and that probably had to do with the amount of heroin I’m sure that he had booted over the course of the day.

Fucking heroin.

At any rate, in honor of his birthday here is a link to a bunch of info about Elliott Smith and a couple of songs. The songs are buried in the page but they are there. I’mnot linking directly to them because I think everyone should take a moment today and remember Elliott Smith and read a bit of the stuff that’s on the website. So click here to head to Elliott’s website and to download some free Elliott Smith songs.

And just because it’s his birthday today, here is another little reminder of how great he was.

Damn I miss this guy.

"I can play the violin better than you" - This guy

We’ve posted a couple of the A.V. Club’s videos of bands covering other bands because it’s a cool series that’s happening and today we have another one for you. A couple weeks ago Owen Pallett stopped by the A.V. Club’s studio and recorded a sweet-ass version of Guided by Voices’ “Game Of Pricks.”

Check it out:

Awesome.

Click here to check out the full series. I highly recommend the Ben Folds covering Elliott Smith and The Antlers covering Pink Floyd.
