"We come from the land of sweaters" - These guys

Hey! Want some free Frightened Rabbit? Sure you do. The band is great so why wouldn’t you? That’s what I thought.

Frightened Rabbit is giving away a free EP with three new songs on it. Awesome. But, in order to get this free new EP you do have to sign up for the band’s mailinglist. A small price to pay for three very good songs I think. And this EP has some special guests on it as well. The second track, “Fuck This Place,” features Tracyanne from Camera Obscura and the third song, “,” features Scottish folk legend Archie Fisher.

Download the EP here.

What a way to start a morning!

"We're just chillin'" - These guys

Frightened Rabbit is on tour right now with Death Cab for Cutie. That’s awesome. Except that I can’t see (either of them) because I will be traveling. Damn. But at least Paste Magazine has something good for me.

Paste Magazine has posted a handful of new Frightened Rabbit songs! That’s aweful nice of them! Click here to check them out.

I think Frightened Rabbit should just quit this tour (since I can’t see them anyways) and go to work on a new album… even if they have a new album already in the can.

Not my photo - J. Allen

Did you notice we posted a couple new reviews? We did! We totally did.

Last weekend I went to a concert and I reviewed it. The concert was Josh Ritter and Scott Hutchison (Frightened Rabbit) and I reviewed it. I reviewed the entire show and it was awesome. I don’t want to spoil it (the review) but I loved the shit out of it.

You can read that review right here.

I also take a listen to the new DeVotchKa album in this review. This is one of our patented (not patented) 1 Sentence Reviews. Why 1 Sentence Review? Well, sometimes you don’t need much more than that to say that something is pretty good.

Next week we’ll have more reviews if we get around to them.

So this week’s bout is all about being lazy.

This past weekend most of the Music Boxer staff headed to Los Angeles to (among other things) catch Josh Ritter and Scott Hutchison (lead singer of Frightened Rabbit) in concert. The show was amazing but we all got back VERY late and decided not to do any actual thinking about anything other than “food, sleep, now” – hence the video bout featuring Josh Ritter and Scott Hutchison. Not a lot of thought went into this and in fact I think the conversation just went like this:

“Shit, we have to do a video bout!”
“Um… do… um… Josh Ritter and Scott Hutchison.”
“Sure. Whatever. In-and-Out is yummy.”

So go, watch and vote now!

Last week’s winner, Red Hot Chili Peppers, has been sent to the winner’s circle.

"Is this our good side?" - These guys

I missed Frightened Rabbit last weekend and I’m kinda bummed about it. But that’s how life is sometimes you know? Sometimes you just can’t drive the two and a half hours to see a concert. Sometimes that two and a half hours is literal and sometimes it’s a metaphor. You know what I mean? I hate to get all deep on you this early on a Thursday but… you know, life is hard and sometimes your body/mind just isn’t willing to make the trip.

But sometimes you just get sick of the Loneliness and decide to get on your rascal scooter and go out dancing. You know what I mean? This guy knows what I mean:

Frightened Rabbit’s video for “The Loneliness & The Scream:”

I like that video. A lot. But I’m not sure what it says about me that I kept expecting/wanting the old man to jump off the roof.

Golly Batman! There sure are a lot of animal bands running around right now. And there are more than a couple band’s named after our fluffy little rabbit friends. So naturally, we should take a couple of these rabbit bands and pit them against each other in a battle for video supremacy.

And that’s exactly what we’ve done!

We’ve got White Rabbits from Brooklyn, NY versus Frightened Rabbit from Selkirk, Scotland. Who will win? Well… I guess that’s up to you isn’t it? So go watch the videos and vote for a winner!

This week’s bout comes directly from the Twitterverse. So thanks to our dear reader that suggested this bout! Check your inbox because we just sent you something awesome!

Last week’s winner, MC Chris, has been sent to the winner’s circle.

Monday. Blah. You kn ow what I mean? You totally know what I mean.

But there is some good news this morning. I haven’t posted very many tour dates on this site for a while. Not sure why… just haven’t. But my inbox is flooded (not literally – that would suck) with people letting me know band’s are heading out on tour. So rather than posting each of these individually, here is a big ass list of bands that are going on tour this fall and a link to their tour dates. This obviously isn’t a full list of EVERY band that is going on tour… because that would be a stupid long list. Anywho, here you go:

James
Eels
Margot and the Nuclear So and Sos
Jonsi
Foals
The National
Frightened Rabbit
Owen Pallett
U2
Stars
Guided By Voices

Like I said… there are a ton more, that’s just the ones I had in my inbox.
