MUSIC NEWS:

Twitter is a great thing. Especially when you get tweets from record labels that let you know they are giving away a free sampler of songs. That’s cool.

Hey! Guess what? Barsuk Records tweeted earlier that they are giving away a free sampler of sings from some of the label’s recent (like, within the last year) releases. The sampler is available right now on Amazon! Sweet. You can click here to go straight to the sampler or you can us the advertisement to the right of this post and get there on your own.

this sampler is totally worth the free price. It has songs from Menomena, David Bazan, Ra Ra Riot, Say Hi, Maps & Atlases, Phantogram and a couple others.

I’d get it… if I didn’t already have all those albums.

Oh yeah, you only have a couple days left to get it for free so… you should probably get off your ass and go get it.

"I left" - the guy that left (second from the left)

Menomena was one of my favorite bands but they just recently lost a member so now I’m a little concerned. I’m not sure how much that member contributed (though since there are only three members, I’m thinking a lot) but I hope the band can continue to make awesome music.

One thing is for sure though – the band still makes awesome videos.

In the band’s new video for “TAOS” a ladies man picks up chicks at a dive bar while his alter ego grapples with situation (literally).

Check it out:

"Oh shit!" - Two of these guys

We’ve posted two new reviews! Eric was bored this week so he went to see Menomena in concert and listened to the new album from System of a Down frontman Serj Tankian. Fortunately for us he was also bored enough to write up his thoughts on both those things.

Click here to read Eric’s review of the Menomena show.

And click here to read Eric’s 1 Sentence review of the new album from Serj Tankian.

Next week we will have a review of the new PVT album. Technically we already have the review of the new PVT album but I thought posting three reviews in one day was a little too much. We don’t want to overload your brains with stuff!

Hey! Did you notice that we posted a couple of new reviews this morning? You didn’t? Why not? Oh, yeah… that thing. It’s ok. But we did in fact post a couple of new reviews this morning so you should check them out! Music Boxer Eric has reviewed two (not one, but two!) new albums this week!

Hooray! Next week we’ll probably have some more reviews. Probably. Yes. Most definitely we will probably have more reviews next week. Maybe.

Rock. Portland style.

Last Friday our Free Music Friday featured Portland’s (greatest god damned city in the US!) Menomena. Remember that? Well, the band is getting ready to release a new album next month (July 27 to be exact) and they are giving away one of the new songs on this album for free! You don’t even have to give your email address or nuthin’!

The song they are giving away is kinda really totally awesome and is called “Five Little Rooms.” If you want to download this sweet little song click here.

Or, if you are the skeptical type and you still aren’t sure if you trust free things on the internet, you can listen to the new track right here:

Menomena is from Portland. That’s important because Portland, OR is the greatest city in the US. There are other great cities… I’m just saying that Portland, OR is THE Greatest. If you’ve been there (and you’re not an asshole) then you know this to be true.

So to honor Portland (kinda… this is really the first free music song I found), we have a free download from Menomena. Yay! The song is called “Wet And Rusting” and you can download it here. This song is seriously cool and you should download it and then buy all of Menomena’s albums.

But if you want to hear it (the song) first, then you can… right here:
