Some old (really old) Radiohead demos appeared online today and all at once we were all reminded that Radiohead was once just a bunch of kids trying to make rock songs just like the rest of us. Well, maybe not like the rest of us because none of us grew up to be Radiohead but you know what I mean.
These demo-songs date back before Pablo Honey and even before Jonny Greenwood joined the band. Back then Radiohead called themselves On A Friday and they sound like the songs we all made in our garage.
Check ‘em out right here:
“Everybody Knows:”
“Girl (In The Purple Dress):”
Those are a long way from “Karma Police” but hey, everyone’s gotta start somewhere.

I am packing up my stuff and getting ready to head to Florida. I know. I’m not sure why either but sometimes we have to do things we don’t want to do. You know what’s great about Florida? Nothing. Florida can suck it. No offense to you that live in Florida but if you live in Florida you probably already know everything I just said.
Anywho…
Before I go I wanted to post this. This is a new song from DOOM, AKA MF Doom. But this isn’t your ordinary DOOM track. No, this is produced by and collaborated with Thom Yorke, Johnny Greenwood of Radiohead.
Say what?
Yes. That’s right. Radiohead, or Thom Yorke, Johnny Greenwood of Radiohead, helped make this new DOOM track. I probably don’t need to say anything else so… here it is:
DOOM, Thom Yorke, Johnny Greenwood – “Retarded Fren” by Treetop
I like it.

So where were we? I believe that before I went on vacation we were talking about music right? Is that what we were doing? It seems like all we ever talk about here is music so I’m just assuming that’s what we were talking about. So… I suppose we should get to it.
Since I was out yesterday we need didn’t post any new streaming albums. Here’s a run down of what we found:
Markéta Irglová’s new album is streaming here.
Radiohead’s remix album is streaming here.
Relient K’s new album is streaming here.
Peter Gabriel’s new orchestral album is streaming here.
NPR is streaming new albums from Joe Henry and Future Islands.
Spinner.com is streaming new albums from:
Mutemath
Dan Mangan
The Misfits
Indigo Girls
Paul McCartney
… and many, many more
That’s what we’ve found. If you know of any others post them in the comments.

This one might be a little bit of a stretch as far as Friday Dance Party goes because it’s kinda hard to actually dance to (unless you are seriously fucked up on drugs and/or have no sense of rhythm whatsoever) but Radiohead’s Thom Yorke released a new song today called “The Twist.” Don’t confuse this song with the Chubby Checker song by the same name. Not the same. Nope. Not at all.
This song, Thom Yorke’s “the Twist,” is very much a Thom Yorke song. If you’ve heard Yorke’s solo album The Eraser then you won’t find any surprises here. But check it out.
Yorke’s “The Twist:”
This song does give me a bit of a headache though.

So… Weezer. Let’s all put all the (very) complicated feelings that we have for Weezer aside for a moment. Lets not talk about how Weezer is not what we want Weezer to be. Lets just talk about how Weezer recorded a version of Radiohead’s “Paranoid Android.”
Weezer covered Radiohead’s “Paranoid Android.”
There is a simple rule that most band’s follow and that rule is “don’t cover Rradiohead.” Why? Why don’t you cover Radiohead? Why bother? You can’t make it better and you can only do it “different” and if you screw it up (which is likely) then you look foolish. So when I saw this video titled “Weezer – Paranoid Android” I was immediately skeptical. And, as it turns out, I should be. This version of “Paranoid Android” is pretty much note for note with Radiohead’s. And… it’s not Radiohead. It’s an OK version but we are still back to the original rule. Why bother? I don’t know.
At any rate, here is Weezer wishing they were Radiohead.
Oh Weezer.

Radiohead’s drummer has a new UP coming out later this month. Neat? I have his (Philip Selway) solo album, Familial, sitting on my computer at home but I haven’t listened to it. There is absolutely no reason why I haven’t, I just haven’t. I like everything I’ve heard from it so that just adds to my confusion. Weird.
Anywho…
The dude has a new EP coming out on the 25th called Running Blind and because this is 2011, the song “Running Blind” is already on the interwebs! Hooray! I have listened to this song and I do like it. But… with everything I just said, I’m not sure what kind of endorsement that is.
Check out “Running Blind” by Philip Selway here:
Philip Selway – Running Blind by Bella Union
Radiohead has been in the news lately but I’m kinda thinking you already know every piece of Radiohead news already (because every time they sneeze it’s on every music blog within seconds) so I won’t get into it.

Well… since the whole world is blowing up about this we might as well join in on the fun because we don’t want to be the only ones not doing something. Who wants to be an individual? If individuality was something we all wanted then Facebook wouldn’t exist. Just sayin’…
So Radiohead posted a new song today on their YouTube page. There is no other information about it other then it’s a new song. No release information. Just a video. The recording is from a series called “From The Basement” session which I guess will air on British television at some point?
Anyways, you can watch Radiohead perform “Staircase” right here:
Nice to see Thom Yorke keeping the dance alive… even while he is singing.

Monday is chugging along and despite all the headaches we are making it through just fine – at least I hope. If you aren’t making it through today just fine then I suggest you turn off your computer and work on resolving or dealing with whatever it is that is interfering with today being just fine. Unless you are dealing with those things and just taking a moment to escape. If that’s the case then we hope your day gets to a point that it is just fine soon.
Anywho, since it is Monday, that means that there are a whole bunch of albums being streamed right now that you can listen to to help you get through today and at the very least help today be just fine.
Here’s what we got so far:
NPR is streaming a handful of albums including new ones from:
Robbie Robertson
Vivian Girls
Diego Garcia
The new Sum 41 album is streaming on their website.
And Spinner is streaming new albums from:
The Mountain Goats
Radiohead
Dirty Beaches
Royal Bangs
Broken Bells
Peter Bjorn and John
… as well as a bunch more and a couple older Pearl Jam albums.
MySpace is streaming viruses so… don’t go there. Ever. In fact, cancel your account because a bunch of your favorite artists are so there is really no reason to go there. Ever.

Right now, as this is being written, I am in a car traveling north. It’s crazy this technology, right?
Anywho, this week’s bout is about Radiohead. A friend of mine and I were talking about how Radiohead is bigger than music at this point. It doesn’t matter what they do anymore. They could fart in a bag and sell it on eBay and half the world would want to buy it and the other half would say that the new fart bag is not as good as the fart bag they released ten years ago. That’s the debate (although not about fart bags – obviously) thy happens between everyone every time Radiohead does something.
So… Here’s a bout dedicated to that debate. We have a “classic” Radiohead video up against a new Radiohead video. So go ahead and engage in the debate by voting.
Last week’s winner, Noah and the Whale, has been sent on to the winner’s circle.
Ok… I’m gonna stop typing now ‘cus I’m kinda getting car sick.

Hey!
Did you notice we posted a couple new reviews? We did! We totally did. I know! Yeah, I know that it doesn’t really matter what other people think about stuff and that we should all be capable of forming our own opinions on things but I also know this is America and reading about other people’s opinions on things and either arguing with them or using them as support for our thoughts and feelings is the national past time.
So… yeah. Eric review the new album by Cut Copy and he also did a 1 Sentence Review of the new Radiohead album.
Check out the Cut Copy review here.
And check out the Radiohead 1 Sentence review of the new Radiohead here.
Earlier this week we also recorded our first Music Boxer podcast. So once we edit that down (it’s REALLY long) we’ll get that posted too! Yay!

While we all wait for Radiohead to do whatever it is they are doing (we don’t even know if they are doing something!) Thome Yorke has teamed up with Burial and Four Tet for a couple of new songs.
Yay!
The songs are called “Ego” and “Mirror” and they are pretty sparse… to say the least. Those hoping for some rockin’ out tracks should look elsewhere because these tracks are ambient and slow. But those familiar with Yorke’s solo album, Eraser, won’t be terribly surprised.
Here are a couple a (very) low quality recordings of the new songs.
“Ego”:
“Mirror”:
Eh. Wake me when something comes out from the Radiohead that doesn’t make me want to nap.
The internet is moving pretty quick these days but I am a little concerned that it took four days for remixes of the new Radiohead album to get out there. Really internet? Four days? You’re losing your steam. This shit should have been out there within minutes of the album’s release last Friday.
Anyways, Radiohead At Ease has collected a couple of the better remixes out there.
Check these out:
My favorite is this one, featuring a mashup with Jay-Z:
“Little Gangsta” Jay-Z/Radiohead by Fichenaffäre
RADIOHEAD- Separator (Idol Eyes Extended Mantra Mix) by accraze
Radiohead – Codex (Mojib Remix) by Mojib
I bet this is all part of some major conspiracy! Let’s all spend the next five days talking about why these remixes exist and what they probably mean. I’m betting this all has something to do with Egypt.

In case you didn’t notice – and I don’t know how you couldn’t because the internet fucking exploded this morning with the news – Radiohead released a new video AND their new album a day early. So in typical Twitter fashion, everyone (and we mean EVERYONE) tweeted about it so we all got to wake up with 31,432 tweets about the new Radiohead album being available early.
But yeah, in addition to the early release (I have no idea what that means and I never suffer from it) Radiohead has also released a video for the track “Lotus Flower.” The video is pretty simple and actually fits right in with the Friday Dance Party theme because the video is just Thom Yorke dancing. That’s it. Just him dancing.
Check it out:
Radiohead is the best.

Just as everyone tries to recover from the Grammys, Radiohead announces that they are releasing a new album this weekend.
So basically Twitter fucking exploded last night and this morning. I typically have a 100 or so tweets in my feed each morning but because Arcade Fire won a Grammy and Radiohead announced a new album I had 3 million tweets in que. The Radiohead thing I get but come on people… Arcade Fire are great but them winning a (deserved) award isn’t cause for the revolution you guys think is happening.
Anywho, yeah, Radiohead has a new album coming out this weekend called King Of Limbs. There really isn’t anything else that needs to be said about it because it will probably be great.
You can pre-order it here. Be warned though, you do have to pay for it this time around. Click here to pre-order.
What a Valentines Day present!

What’s Revdog thankful for this Thanksgiving? Only one of the greatest albums ever made in the history of ever!
Radiohead’s OK Computer will forever be remembered as a “game changer.” Coming off the awesome The Bends, the band changed music forever with the release of OK Computer. The quality of Radiohead’s releases after this album is debatable but the greatness of OK Computer is not.
So for OK Computer, Revdog is forever thankful.

Here’s another one from the “shoulda posted it three months ago” file.
Philip Selway (aka Radiohead’s drummer) released a solo album a couple months ago and here is the video for the lead single from that album. The song is titled “By Some Miracle” and doesn’t really sound like Radiohead. And this here video is great. I love this video. This video makes me wish I was British… and suicidal.
Check it out:
Anyone out there have the new Philip Selway album, Familial? I’ve liked what I’ve heard and I’m thinking about picking up the album. Let em know what you think.
Comment [1]

There are things that are necessary in life. Maslow’s hierarchy of need did a fine job of spelling that out for all of us. Granted, we may feel as though that hierarchy needs adjustment in the modern, electronic age, but the basic needs of us human beings is captured. The stuff Maslow laid out is what we need to make it through our lives happily and hopefully.
What is not on Maslow’s hierarchy of need is this:

There really is no need for this to exist… but it does. Amanda Palmer has recorded an entire album of Radiohead covers on Ukulele. Why? Well… I don’t know. But it exists now so even asking that question is moot at this point.
But in the case that you want to hear it, because of either curiosity or morbid fascination, you can listen to the whole thing (yes, the whole thing!) right here:
Neat?
I don’t know a lot but I do know that I didn’t need for this to exist so… this is the last that I will bother with it.

Here are a couple little pieces of Radiohead news for everyone.
First, Radiohead will release a new album this year – or at least that’s the word on the (Twitter) street.
Second, this:
Karma Police, Glastonbury 2k10 from Rostam on Vimeo.
Jesus…
Third, Radiohead drummer, Phil Selway, has a “solo” album coming out and today released the first track for us all to enjoy. So… enjoy:
By Some Miracle by Philip Selway
Neat!
So in the last couple days (as my city burns! Sorry… I’ll stop with the fire shit now) there have been a whole bunch of album announcements. Instead of doing one news post for each, how about I just list them all here for you. That work? Well, too bad… because it’s going down like that anyway.
Jimmy Eat World has completed a new album
Face To Face has completed a new album
Maritime is recording a new album
Radiohead is recording a new album
Margo and the Nuclear So and Sos have recorded a new album
Paul Heaton (of the Beautiful South) is recording a new album
Reuben’s Accomplice is (still!) recording a new album
Amanda Palmer is releasing an all ukulele album of Radiohead covers
Well, that’s all I got right now. There is more out there I’m sure but I have to get out of town (literally). More tomorrow… maybe.
