"You dress weird!" - These guys

of Montreal have a new song out that is kinda un-of Montreal like. It’s not so dancy and poppy like we have become use to. You probably won’t see this song in an Outback Steakhouse commercial is what I’m saying.

The new song, “Black Lion Massacre,” is from a new EP and you can check it out over at Stereogum. Click here to do just that.

I’m not sure I like this. Sounds like noise. Maybe I’m just getting old. I suppose I’d better watch myself before I suddenly start standing in my front yard telling the kids to slow down, pull their pants up and “turn off that racket!”

"I'm a soldier!" - The dude on the left

I know it’s still early on Monday so I’ll spell this one out a little more clearly than I usually do.

So of Montreal has a new video for their song “Famine Affair.” The song is good and the video is good but the video is kinda weird. Remember that movie a little bit ago where Jennifer Aniston wants a baby but doesn’t want a dude so she just gets some dude to jerk off in a cup so she can use that to get a baby? No? I don’t blame you because it looked terrible (I didn’t see it because I don’t like those types of movies and I’m single so I don’t have anyone that will drag me to those types of movies). But that’s the same premise that happening here. A bunch of baby crazy chicks are having a party and they want some dude to jerk off into a cup so they can inseminate one (lucky?) chick.

Neat?

Well, check it out for yourself:

I’m not sure why they don’t opt for “the old fashioned way” here but whatever… I’m not an expert in insemination (thank god!).

"Mom said to stay out of the finger paints but she's a bitch" - These guys

I may have already posted this. But you know what? I don’t care. I like this video.

of Montreal is real hit and miss for me. I have a couple of their albums but I rarely find myself in an of Montreal mood. Knowwhatimean? In the mornings, when I’m selecting the CDs that will provide the day’s soundtrack I see of Montreal and I just skip right past them. But when I do get around to listening to of Montreal I usually enjoy the experience. But only for a little bit.

also, I know associate of Montreal almost exclusively with Outback Steakhouse. That’s not a comment on artists selling out – it’s just a statement about the fact that all of Montreal songs sound similar and when I hear them I think of that commercial for Outback Steakhouse. I do not like Outback Steakhouse. But that has nothing to do with of Montreal.

Anywho… I do really like this video. The “Lord of the Flies” thing works for me here.

of Montreal’s “Coquet Coquette:”

Have I already posted this? It’s been a weird day.

"Our new album isn't very good" - These guys

It’s Monday (yuck!) and a whole bunch of albums come out tomorrow. A ton. Literally a ton. If you put all the albums that are coming out on a scale it would weigh a ton. Probably. I’m not sure that’s even possible but for the sake of argument I’m gonna say that it would all amount to a ton of new music. But whatever… it’s too early to get into a theoretical discussion about how much music weighs.

Anywho, Spinner.com has a whole bunch of albums streaming on their website right now. Some of the streams that are streaming right now are:

Weezer – Hurley
The Walkman – Lisbon
of Montreal – False Priest
Chromeo – Business Casual
Robert Plant – Band of Joy
The Drums – The Drums
Phillip Selway – Familial
… and a whole bunch of others

Check out all the streaming albums here.

"You're weird!" - These guys

Since it’s Friday I suppose we should get around to giving you all some free music. It’s not that it’s a burden for us to do it. That’s not what I’m saying. What I’m saying is that we should give you guys some free music so you don’t email me asking “hey, where’s today’s free music at?” Kids today…

Anywho, we have a new song from of Montreal for you today. The song is called “Sex Karma” and is from the band’s new album, False Priest, which hits the interwebs next week. The song sounds like an of Montreal song that’s for sure but don’t let that stop you from downloading it. Wait, was that a burn? That might have been a burn. If that was a burn then I totally have to hand in my Hipster card.

Whatevs. Download it here and listen to it right here:

"Good night Cleveland!" - Whoever these guys are

Yesterday I posted a link to a bunch of different bands that were headed out on tour. And since I posted that I’ve had a billion (literally, a billion! Ok… maybe not literally) people email me other people that are headed out on tour that I should have included.

So… to make everyone happy, here are a bunch more bands with link to their tour dates:

Brandon Flowers
Jason Mraz
Ted Leo and the Pharmacists
of Montreal
Kele Okereke

Again, I’m sure there are a bunch more so feel free to email everyone that I keep missing.

"come on down to Outback Steakhouse!" - These guys.

Well… that was an interesting morning. Nothing like getting up and realizing that the payment information you used to set up your music blog site has expired, bringing the site down and you are forced to run around trying to get everything back up because you thought everything was already set up but you didn’t realize the payment information you had set up was like three years old.

Blah.

Anywho, Music Boxer is back up (obviously) so all is right with the universe.

Getting back to the music, of Montreal has a new album coming out soon and today the band released one of the new tracks, “Coquet Coquette.” Want to hear it? Of course you do. Click here for the free download.

Neat!

Of Montreal’s new album, False Priest, hits the interwebs on Sept. 13. At this time it is unclear how many of the new songs are about Outback Steakhouse.
