Tenacious D – Tribute

I suppose we could have picked Mike up on the way to the bar, since it would have been on the way, but we didn’t. We’d wait for Mike to get home and then we’d pile in to my car. The destination was a tequila bar downtown, and the goal was to drink as much tequila as Mike had made in tips that night. Of course, the ultimate goal as decided upon by the group at large was to get our names on the surfboard above the bar after drinking all 100 tequilas the bar had to offer. I say we but I never actually drank. I didn’t (and still don’t) drink so it was my job to get us to the bar and back home again. It was everyone else’s job to do the drinking.

Once in the car someone would immediately eject whatever CD was in the stereo and replace it with Tenacious D’s album. Skipping ahead to “Tribute”, we’d all shout/sing all the way to the bar.

At the bar there would be laughing and more singing. There would also be at least a couple shots of tequila of varying quality – again, based on the amount in tips Mike had made that night.

Once the money was gone and the buzz (or drunkenness) had set in we’d get back in the car and start home, picking up the shout/singing right where it had left off. If necessary, a stop was made on campus as there was a secondary goal that had been agreed to – we’d pee on every building on campus. Again, I did not participate as I was the lookout/getaway driver. After checking off some tequilas and buildings we’d head back home to play some Super Nintendo and sleep until 11 am the next day.

We did this damn near every night for almost a year. Eventually getting our names one the surfboard just before Mike deployed to Afghanistan. Well, they did. I never got my name on the board, I just drove.
